Heated Substrates

Schluter Ditra-Heat under every project. Smart-thermostat ready.

The Cascade House.

Three rooms, three temperatures of stone. A study in restraint for a mid-century home overlooking the Columbia.

01 — Primary Bath

A monolith of Borghini.

Bookmatched slab on three walls, mitered to a 45° return. No grout lines visible from the threshold. Heated floor in honed 6" hexagons. The shower bench was carved from a single offcut.

02 — Kitchen Backsplash

Travertine, quiet.

Brushed travertine in a 4"×16" running bond. We dropped the field three inches behind the range so the hood appears to float. Grout color blended on-site against three test boards.

03 — Sunroom Floor

A carpet of terracotta.

Hand-glazed 4" squares from a single kiln run in Fez. We sorted them across the room to balance the natural waver — a slow afternoon with the homeowner and a glass of mezcal.

The same room, twice.

Drag to compare. A 1923 Sellwood bungalow bath, restored in the original footprint with hand-cut limestone and unlacquered brass.

01

Conversation

We meet at the home, sketch over coffee, and listen for what's actually being asked.

Week 1
02

Sampling

You take home a curated box of three to five materials. They live with you for a week.

Week 2–3
03

Setting

One lead setter, one apprentice. No subcontractors. Site is left swept and shoed.

Week 4–10
04

Patina

We come back at 6 months and again at 1 year to seal, re-grout, and check our work.

Year one

A slow archive.
